If you’ve ever been tasked with evaluating a Mazak CNC machine purchase—whether it’s a new Mazak CNC lathe or a fiber laser table—you know the process can feel overwhelming. You’re balancing technical specs, total cost, and internal stakeholder opinions.
I’m an office administrator who manages equipment purchasing for a mid-sized manufacturing firm. Since 2021, I’ve handled about 15 machine tool acquisitions, including three Mazaks. Step 5: Don’t Forget the "Soft" Costs (Training, Downtime, and Confidence)
This is the step most checklists ignore. I’ve had mixed feelings about some of our purchases. On one hand, the machine performed great. On the other, the learning curve for our operators was steeper than expected. That cost us production time.
When you evaluate a machine, factor in a few days of downtime for training. If your team is new to Mazak’s Mazatrol control, plan for it. I now ask for a two-day onsite training session as part of the deal.
